The region of Agaete is located in Las Palmas province in the Canary Islands in Spain. It lies to the north west of Gran Canaria island with the Atlantic Ocean, the Galdar and the Artenara to the west and east and south respectively. Before the natural monument, El Dedo de Dios, was destroyed during a storm in 2005, Agaete used to be the best place to view the monument. The region's most popular beach is La Playa de Las Nieves which lies between the marina and the old dock. The beach has calm waters with a number of small of restaurants and shops.

The centre of the city sits on the site of the former fortress of San Cristobal and is looked over by the monument dedicated to the Triumph of Candelaria, which is a neoclassical sculpture in Carrara marble and was created by the Italian Pasquale Bocciardo. This part of the city is also overlooked by the 18th century Baroque facade of the La Carta Palace. In the centre of the city, near the sea, several of the busiest streets and squares of the capital meet, such as the Plaza de la Candelaria.
