Electric car charging available onboard with Irish Ferries

Date: 08 Jun 2011 11:00 Source: Irish Ferries

ESB ecars and Irish Ferries have officially launched onboard charge points on their Dublin Holyhead and Rosslare Cherbourg & Roscoff ferry services meaning electric and hybrid car travel to Britain and France is now possible.

A dedicated electric car charging area is now available to ensure motorists can access this free service during the crossing so that their cars are charged by the time they reach their destination. These charge points are operational on the Ulysses and Oscar Wilde Irish Ferries' vessels and will be extended to the rest of the fleet.

Citing the move as a further indication of Irish Ferries' desire to be at the forefront in embracing new technology and facilities, Daragh O'Reilly, Marketing Manager said "the development extends the horizon for electric car and hybrid motorists who can now recharge their electric car as they travel into and out of Ireland by ferry."

Speaking at the launch, Paul Mulvaney, Managing Director of ESB ecars said, "As part of the rollout of electric car charge points, this new development of onboard charging extends the infrastructure to enable electric car drivers to travel to foreign destinations. The availabilty of charge points in a wide variety of convenient locations will help to further promote the adoption of electric cars in Ireland."
