Potosi Guide

Potosi Ferry Port

Situated on the south west coast of Nicaragua, Potosi is a small port town used to connect passengers with El Salvador. The only ferry route departing the port is to La Union and is supplied by Ruta Golfo, lasting around two hours.

What is there to do in Potosi?

What Potosi lacks in size it makes up for in warmth, character and simplicity. The only activity revolves almost entirely around the port and many who visit are only passing through, yet when it comes to finding a place to wind down after the stress of travelling, Potosi is ideal. There is only one place to stay in the town, Hospedaje Brisas del Golfo, that can get very busy in the height of tourism so could be worth trying to book ahead. Fortunately, it is found very close to the port and oftentimes the staff will liaise with the local fishermen to help you arrange your sailing. There are some low-key budget cafes and food joints scattered about the town, usually serving authentic food at incredibly cheap prices. After enjoying some of the local cuisine, it is worthwhile just walking around the peaceful town to embrace the relaxed nature.

How do you get around Potosi?

The town is so small that is more than possible to cover the entirety of it by foot, alternatively there are motorcycle transfers at cheap prices, though they can sometimes be dangerous.
