Wellington Port is located on the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand and is the departure/arrival port for ferries crossing the Cook Strait to/from Picton in New Zealand's South Island. The journey between the ports of Wellington and Picton is one of New Zealand's most iconic tourist experiences. The ferry terminal at Wellington is located on Aotea Quay which is about 5 minutes drive north of Wellington Railway Station. Wellington itself is the capital and second most populous city of New Zealand, with around 400,000 residents.
