Leyte Guide

Leyte Ferry Port

Belonging to the Visayas group of the Philippines, Leyte is divided into two provinces; Northern Leyte and Southern Leyte. The primary ferry route departing from Leyte Port is to Cebu, one of the islands in the Visayas group and one of the Philippines’ most popular tourist destinations. Leyte, especially Southern Leyte, has become very popular with travellers due to the numerous diving opportunities. It has become a hotspot for those wishing to explore the depths of the seas, though there are other natural landmarks to visit: the Masaba Falls are a spectacular natural phenomenon, Alto Peak is one of the most striking mountains in the Philippines and Macarthur’s Landing is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. Macarthur’s Landing is particularly worthwhile visiting; it commemorates the historic return of Douglas Macarthur, sparking the campaign to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation. The island of Leyte is relatively big and connected by several highways, therefore cars are usually the best way to get around. The famous San Juanico Bridge connects Leyte with Samar, and was one of the revolutionary moments in the history of the Visayas island. The main city in Leyte is Tacloban, which has taxis heading to the port, though it is best advised to negotiate a price before entry.

Cebu City Guide

Cebu City Ferry Port

Cebu Port is the largest domestic port in the Philippines; situated on the east coast it borders the Mactan Channel, a narrow strait between Cebu and the Mactan Islands. Cebu Port belongs in Cebu City, the oldest city of the Philippines and the country’s first capital. Over the years it has transcended into a hub of activity, with many tourists flocking over to witness its historic monuments and stunning architecture. Being a purely domestic port, Cebu Port only serves to other islands belonging to the Philippines. Five companies are in operation from Cebu Port, all offering daily crossings to Bohol Island Port, Cagayan De Oro Port, Danao Port and Ilo-ilo Port. Each ferry route runs around one or two times per day, typically leaving in the early morning and lasting for around two hours. Cebu Port is popular among passengers for its recently renovated canteen area and free Wi-Fi for customers.
