Naples Mergellina Guide

Naples Mergellina Ferry Port

Mergellina is a coastal town found in the city of Naples, a large city resting on the west coast of Italy, bordering the Tyrrhenian Sea. The port is used as the gateway to other coastal resorts around Italy and the surrounding islands.

What is there to do in Mergellina?

Painters, artists and poets have decorated Mergellina in a sea of beauty; head there in the summer and the sun shines down on the blanket of colourful houses, picturesque harbour and archaic architecture. Small boats line the docks, and fisherman grace the key spots, indicating to all who visit about the proud maritime heritage embedded in Mergellina’s history. The promenade has remained unaffected by the town’s gradual modernisation, still showcasing the infrastructure that belonged to the town since the 13th Century. To really witness the wonderful aesthetics of Mergellina, traverse up the hill towards the famous church where you can bask in the breathtaking vistas afforded from the apex of the landscape. After a day embarking on a challenging walk, treat yourself to some delicious Italian cuisine at one of the fine restaurants laying in the town centre and the harbour.

How do you get around Mergellina?

The town is very compact and the charming scenery and cobbled streets lend themselves to a leisurely stroll around the sleepy atmosphere.

Stromboli Guide

Stromboli Guide

Stromboli is a small island off the north coast of Sicily, containing one of the three active volcanoes in Italy. It is one of the eight Aeolian Islands, a volcanic arc north of Sicily. This name is a corruption of the Ancient Greek name Strongulē which was given to it because of its round swelling form. The volcano has erupted many times, and is constantly active with minor eruptions, often visible from many points on the island and from the surrounding sea, giving rise to the island's nickname "Lighthouse of the Mediterranean" There are two villages on the island, the larger Stromboli and the much smaller Ginostra, a former fishing village rarely visited by tourists. It is not yet feasible to walk between the villages and the only way to travel between them is by boat.
