Otranto Guide

Otranto Ferry Port

Situated on the Adriatic Coast of Italy, in the province of Lecce, Otranto is the country’s easternmost town and one of the smaller Italian ports. It is primarily used to connect Italy and Greece, with several crossings to Greece leaving each day.

What is there to do in Otranto?

Being a relatively lesser known resort in Italy, those that do know about Otranto will have been informed about the incredible cathedral in the city centre. After being bludgeoned by a Turkish massacre in 1480, the cathedral showcases the town’s brutal history; 813 martyrs’ bones are displayed, providing a brutal reminder to the fresh visitors. Other than the standout attraction, Oranto is generally considered a quiet, sleepy town that relies on its beautiful coastline to appeal to tourists. The coastline is lined with glorious beaches, ideal for whiling away a few hours under the rays of the afternoon sun. The La Dolce Riva and the Lido Acqua Chiara are two of the most popular beaches, but to bask in the warm weather whilst being surrounded by gorgeous greenery head to Lido Tropea. After a day witnessing the stunning architecture and relaxing in the sun, enjoy some of the delicious local cuisine in the many restaurants serving sea food fresh from the waters.

How do visitors get around Otranto?

Otranto is small enough to be covered entirely by foot, which is the desirable option considering the unique and alluring landscape.
