Pozzuoli Guide

Pozzuoli Ferry Port

Pozzuoli is a commune found in the Metropolitan City of Naples, laying on the south west coast of Italy. The ferry routes departing the port head to islands neighbouring the Italian west coast, lasting between 40 minutes and one hour.

What is there to do in Pozzuoli?

Unique amphitheatres, a huge volcanic crater and arguably the best fish dishes in the country – Pozzuoli offers a landscape and cultural history that is unmatched around Italy. Many head to the town just to witness the incredible phenomenon of an active volcano; you can smell the hydrogen sulphate emitting from the base and feel the raw heat against your skin, it is an experience that is hard to forget. Whilst the volcano is the standout attraction, the fascinating architecture that decorates the town centre showcases the Greek history that is embedded in Pozzuoli. Ancient ruins and religious temples offer a stunning insight into the rich culture, especially when the town is surrounded by quintessential Italian infrastructure. The volcano and temples often steal the limelight, yet the amphitheatre oftentimes provides the most entertainment for anyone with a penchant for Roman style buildings. The winding corridors, mysterious tunnels and enigmatic chambers stand well against time, surviving the relative destruction that Pozzuoli once endured, and many locals regard the amphitheatre as the town’s emblem.

How do you get around Pozzuoli?

A metro and train system both stop at Pozzuoli, and there is a bus service that operates around the key landmarks. It is also possible to travel by foot around the town centre.
