The small town of Queenscliff is located on the Bellarine Peninsular in South Victoria, Australia. It lies to the south of Swan Bay, at the entrance to Port Philip, and is the administrative centre of the borough of Queenscliff. The town is at one end of the Searoad ferry to Sorrento on the Mornington Peninsular and is known for its Victorian heritage given that it was, during Victorian times, a popular holiday resort. The Queenscliff Seafood Feast is a popular event in the town's calendar and as the name suggests it focuses on locally caught seafood. The feast raises much needed funds for the Royal Children's Hospital and is held every Good Friday. There is also an annual music festival held in the town during the last week of November and attracts both local and international acts.
The town has managed to successfully blend the old with the new as several new contemporary developments in the town sit well alongside their more 'historic' neighbours.
Located on the Mornington Peninsular to the south west of Melbourne, Australia, Sorrento Pier is a popular destination for water based activities or for people simply taking a leisurely stroll along the pier. It has always been popular with visitors from Melbourne who first arrived by paddle steamer in the 1890's and then took a steam tram across the peninsular to the ocean beach. The pier was built in the 1870's and was key to the town's development as it provided access to the steamships that transported visitors from Melbourne. The pier last hosted a steamer in 1942.
The Mornington Peninsula is located south east of Melbourne and is surrounded by Port Phillip to the west, Western Port to the east and the Bass Strait to the south, and is connected to the mainland in the north. Geographically, the peninsula begins its protrusion from the mainland in the area between Pearcedale and Frankston. The area was originally home to the Mayone-bulluk and Boonwurrung-Balluk clans and formed part of the Boonwurrung nation's territory prior to European settlement.
