Ferries to Gulf of Napoli

The Gulf of Napoli is among the most historic and romantic getaways in Europe and is located on the south west coast of Italy opening on to the Mediterranean Sea. Within easy access is Naples itself, the ruins of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Sorrento and the islands of Capri and Ischia off the coast, as well as destinations further inland.

Ferries operate out of Naples to a range of destinations including Capri, Sorrento, Palermo in Sicily and the island of Ischia.

There are also sailings to the Aeolian Islands of Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli, Vulcano, which have crystal-clear waters and stunning scenery and which are ideal for water sports such as snorkelling, scuba diving and sailing. Or head for Cagliari on the island of Sardinia, Catalina on the east coast of Sardinia, the islands of Ustica and Procida and the Aegadian Islands.

From the Gulf of Napoli, many people opt to negotiate their way around the area by car, taking advantage of the good road network available that includes much motorway. But be warned, the roads around the coast that hang vertiginously over the sea, are very narrow, feature many hairpin bends and are not for the faint-hearted. They also get very busy in summer. Driving in Naples itself can also be considered a rite of passage with difficult driving conditions. Away from Naples and the coast though, things are easier. Naples is on the A1 North-south auto route to Rome and Milan and the A3 south to Salerno and Reggio di Calabria.

  • "Satisfied"

I travelled with NLG this summer from Naples Beverlo to Amalfi in Italy and read prior customers' comments (after buying the ticket :D) and based on many negative feedbacks I was terrified and started to regret that I purchased the ticket with NLG. Primarily, the comments were regarding delays, cleanliness, arrogant staff etc. While I do not neglect that some might have had bad experience, I must say we did not - departures were almost on time, staff in the port as well as on the ferry was truly helpful and spoke good English and hence we had to issue with communication - they were really trying to assist passengers the best they could and given how many they handle in such peaks as when we travelled, I must say they did an excellent job. I bought two tickets for me and my partner but somehow ended up with having just one name mentioned on both tickets which, based on other passengers' comments, I thought might be an issue although I could not understand why (maybe for transfers between different countries but not within EU?). We were totally fine as obviously being in EU, nobody asked us to present any ID's or passports. Also, in the process of booking the tickets online (through Directferries), I could not find the option to purchase a ticket for luggage (or I overlooked it) but I was able to get one without any issues at NLG counter in Beverelo port Naples where you are btw. served at a counter dedicated only for customers with purchased online ticket - they give you a printed one in exchange for the online confirmation which you obviously should have with you (printed or email in your phone) and without needing to wait in otherwise lengthy queue for the other "normal" counter. At the Beverlo port, there is an information table at the beginning which shows you from which port your ship departs which is clearly marked with a big number sign above everyone's heads and so orientation in the port was also easy..

  • "Excellent Cooperation by the operator"

Arrived earlier than expected but NLG quite happy to take all six of us on the presvious crossing Naples to Capri. Same on the return route when we realised that our booked crossing was cutting it very fine for our cruise final boarding time, which we did have to hand at time of booking. Smooth jpournety both ways . Many thanks to NLG from all of us.
