Plymouth Santander Ferry reviews

  • "Top ship, cabins are too small though!"

My cabin was a bit small and this would prevent me from travelling on this ferry again.

  • "Comfort and efficiency with some suggestions"

I was the only cyclist boarding and was allowed first on board. I think a little more care could have been taken with securing my bike. Had expected more than a railing and a piece of rope to secure my bike to. Comfortable cabin, but did not appreciate the various entertainment announcement coming through on the speaker in the cabin whilst I was trying to sleep. Good choice of food and drinks at reasonable prices. So, overall, comfortable and efficient service, but improve bike securing facilities and consider general announcements!

Plymouth Guide

The English city of Plymouth is located on the south coast of the county of Devon, in the south west of the Britain. It is around 300 km to the south west of London and is located between the mouths of the River Plym and the River Tamar, where they both join Plymouth Sound. The city's history is inextricably linked to the sea and in its time the city has been, or still is, a hub for shipbuilding and seafaring in general. It is also home to the largest operational naval base in Western Europe, Her Majesty's Naval Base Devonport.

The city's waterfront areas have many attractions for visitors to enjoy. The Barbican's cobbles quayside are definitely worth strolling through where visitors can follow in the Pilgrim father's footsteps. Alternatively, the National Marine Aquarium with its deep water fish tanks is also worth a visit. Then there is the Blackfriars Gin Distillery, where Plymouth's finest export can be tasted or simply take a boat trip around Plymouth Sound from Mayflower Steps.

Ferry services to Roscoff in France and Santander in Spain depart from the city's port. There is also a passenger service operating to the Cornish hamlet of Cremyll, which is believed to have been in operation since 1204.

Santander Guide

The modern Spanish city of Santander is located net to the Bay of Biscay and the Cantabrian Sea, and is a popular destination with tourists who are mainly drawn to the city's lovely beaches and in particular those that are located around the resort of El Sardinero. The one stand out beach in this area is the Playa Primera de El Sardinero. Unsurprisingly the most popular time to visit the city tends to be during the warm summer months with many of the visitors making a direct beeline towards one of the many beaches. However, alternative ways of spending time in or around the city include taking a leisurely stroll along the Avenida de la Reina Victoria or along the promenade of Paseo Maritimo or by taking a cruise along the coastline. Santander's busy fishing district, known as Barrio Pesquero, is perhaps the best place to find a good seafood restaurant.

The Port of Santander is host to ferry services to Plymouth and Portsmouth in the United Kingdom. The crossing time for Portsmouth is around 24 hours and to Plymouth, 20 hours.
