Spirit of France

Operated by P&O Ferries on the Calais Dover route

At more than 47,000 gross tonnes and 213 metres in length, the Spirit of France can carry more than 1,000 cars and up to 2,000 passengers. Spirit of France entered service a year later than her sister ship - Spirit of Britain, and with her shares the title of the largest ship to have been built for the Dover Strait.

Onboard you will find an international food court, bar and cafe, discounted shopping, a brasserie, games room, family lounge, bureau de change, free WiFi, an ATM machine, an exclusive club lounge and much more.

Onboard Cabins / Reserved Seating

There are no cabins onboard the Spirit of France however seating is available in the club class lounge. Pre-book to enjoy a touch of luxury during your trip including a complimentary glass of champagne, tea, coffee, soft drinks and newspapers – all served by P&O Ferries friendly staff.

Onboard Food and Drink

With a choice of bars and restaurants there really is something for everyone onboard the Spirit of France to suit all tastes and pockets. If you are travelling with the family then head to the Food Court, serving exciting cuisine from around the world - the place for a tasty curry as well as freshly prepared traditional British fare, like fish and chips! If you prefer to dine in style, why not try the Brasserie, with the highest quality food and wine served to your table.

The onboard coffee shops serve a selection of light snacks and pastries - plus a wide range of hot and cold drinks, including the famous Costa Coffee.

Check out the Bar for a fun and lively atmosphere and a perfect place to socialise whilst enjoying a drink. Those travelling with children may prefer the family lounge which features comfortable seating with a bar, light snacks, tea, coffee and soft drinks on offer.

In the summer months there’s also an alfresco bar.

Onboard Shopping

There are some great bargains to be had in the Spirit of France shops with literally hundreds of products considerably cheaper than you can find anywhere in the UK. Not only will you find great savings of up to 40% off high street prices on selected fragrances, skincare and cosmetics, but you can also save up to 30% on wine, beer and spirits too. The onboard shop also stocks the latest in travel entertainment aimed at making your journey more comfortable, including the latest best-selling novels, toys and games for the whole family.

Travelling with Children

There's a variety of activities onboard for children including play areas and quieter spots for watching videos. During the summer holidays when many people take their family breaks, you will find children's entertainers onboard with specially trained staff to encourage creativity with some supervised painting or drawing, allowing parents time to sit and enjoy their own space.

Accessibility

If notified or requested staff will meet and assist customers with wheelchairs on the vehicle deck. All shopping, dining and seating areas on the Spirit of France are wheelchair friendly.

Please Note: Whilst we have taken great care in making our Spirit of France guide as accurate as possible, onboard facilities, services and entertainment may vary depending on the date and time of year that you travel, facilities mentioned may change without notification and ferry companies reserve the right to operate vessels other than those mentioned at time of booking without prior notification.

  • "Nice way to end a trip"

Now that I've retired and time is not that important to me this was a civilised way to end my trip abroad. Booking the P &O sail back from Calais couldn't have been simpler I paid to use the lounge and it was worth every penny Thank you. See you next time

From booking on line to arrival at the port it is one of the easiest websites to navigate Check in was simple no hassle the crossings were pleasant with a millpond in the Chanel The food on board was the only negative as it was very expensive and also lacked flavour so bring a packed lunch it’s a lot cheaper and you get what you want

  • "Weekend trip"

I travelled from Calais to Dover on the Pride of Kent. Nice boat. Getting a bit old though. But overall, a good experience. I travelled back on the Spirit of France. That was an even better experience as the boat is brand new. On both travels, the staff members were great. I may say as usual as I've been travelling with P&O for about 20 years now and I have never had to complain.

Great travel experience... from checking in at Dover to boarding the ferry, greeted by helpful staff. Stress free journey. When we returned three days later the process at Calais was as efficient and stress free. I haven’t been on a ferry for many years but will definitely be using this mode of transport more regular. Thank you.

  • "Beware of extra charges with directferries.co.uk"

The trip was fine, but booking on Direct Ferries was a mistake as hidden charges were added that I did not want. After I paid and tried to call them to have it removed, the customer service team never answered the phone. A lesson here: always book directly with the company you will travel with.
